Life's Little Lessons: Learn to Laugh at Yourself

From: We Heart It

Dearest Devotees,

As some of you may know I went to a boarding secondary school for my junior high and high school experiences. What you don't know is that I can hardly remember my first 3 years at the school because they were some of the worst years in my life. I can remember feeling really awkward, and experiencing bouts of depression, because some people were mean to me and by my last year I had developed some serious self-confidence issues. However, after having one of the best summers in my life, and being able to take some time away from school to rediscover myself, I was able to come away from the experience with quite a few lessons about myself and life. One of the most important lessons I'd learnt was to laugh at myself every once in a while.

It's incredible how much this lesson changed me. Slowly my feelings of self hatred and over- awareness began to leave. I became more outgoing, more willing to take risks and learn from and laugh at my mistakes. I stopped beating myself up over every little thing and started to care less and less about what other people thought about me. Years later, I barely recognise the girl I used to be. Oh I am definitely still awkward sometimes but I will be the first person to laugh it off and let it go. I am much more confident in my abilities and most importantly I am beginning to believe and have faith in myself.

So I'm going to close this out with two youtube vlog posts by Natalie Tran of Community Channel. She helps me remember that being able to laugh at yourself and the random situations you find yourself in enables to grow in self love and general happiness.

Love you all and Stay inspired,

P.S. So let me know what you think. Do you know how to laugh off awkward situations you find yourself in? Do you judge yourself too harshly? Feel free to let me know in the comments below.
P.P.S Nat doesn't do only songs. I just think these are amazing!

Thanks for sharing this with us. It does take so much to be our own personal cheerleader for our selves. Its strange, I am better at cheering my beau up more than myself. It really is an on going journey.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Due to the fact that I find myself in awkward situations on an almost daily basis, I am extremely skilled in laughing them off and moving on. What's the point on dwelling on life's insignificant details and moments, right?

Happy, Happy Weekend, my love!! :)

I liked how you opened up very much about school. I myself had a terrible time my first year of school. I was uber short and got bullied a lot. ..so much so that I found myself in a predicument where my nose was almost broken. They'd threaten to beat me up if I didn't do this silly flip on the monkey bars and when I hit the ground and say my nose bleeding..everyone ran. There were some mean girls even in 3rd grade back then.

thanks for reading too.

Laugh at myself was the most important lesson acquired. You can survive only with a great sense of Irony :)

oh my god, i am by nature, a VERY funny person, intended or unintended. this morning, for example, as I was heading out to work, I was getting my scooter ready to take out, and saw there was a bit of sun and decided to walk instead. as i was walking I noticed my ears felt funny, ringing, and some pressure, like water in the ear or something. about a block from work, I walk past the first person encountered on my route, He looked at me a bit quizzically and then said good morning...

I "good morning'ed back and wondered why he look at me so queerly. It was then I realized that I still had on my motorcycle helmet on, and had been walking FOR BLOCKS with it on! The "water in my ear" feeling was just the sound of the helmet. LMAO. I started laughing and called out to him that thanks to him I realized I had forgotton to take my helmet off.

Oh, he said, I just thought you were one of those people who can't fall down.

I had a good laugh at my expense, and it put me in an excellent mood all day!
